Generative AI (GenAI)

A broad category of AI models that learn patterns from input training data to generate novel, original content - such as text, images, or synthetic patient data - rather than just analyzing or predicting existing data. Examples include Copilot generating written responses and Inpatient/Outpatient Insights generating chart summaries.

Unlike discriminative models, generative Al makes predictions on existing data rather than new data. Predictive AI differs from Generative AI in the output of AI activity. Generative AI creates new content (text, images, etc) where Predictive AI generates new insights and predictions based on existing data and patterns within that data.
