Registry (Epic)

Clinical information system (CIS) registries hold data on large populations or cohorts of patients, and can be used as 'denominators' for reports, chronic disease management, clinical decision supports, study recruitment and other clinical and administrative purposes. Registry metrics can be used to stratify included patients into smaller subsets.

Registries are used to pre-assemble information about persons matching specified inclusion criteria. They reduce reporting burdens when running queries in production data environments. Registries also allow users to quickly filter or restrict data on the defined cohort to identify a particular clinical subset in need of clinical intervention, who may inform a clinical improvement initiative or who may be candidates for an interventional research study.
