Clarity (Epic)

Clarity is a reporting database supporting the Epic clinical information system (CIS). It is an operational data store abstracted and updated daily from the production data associated with day-to-day workflows.

Based on a SQL database management system, its relational structure is optimized for exploration and analysis of information about groups of patients and patterns of processes. Clarity data can be used to create analytical reports drawing from vast amounts of long-term data without slowing the CIS production system.

Crystal Reports and Metric Data are examples of tools attached primarily to Clarity to support clinical and administrative decision-making and policy-making. Clarity data can be exported to Epic's Caboole or other enterprise data warehouses (EDW).
